• What gear do you gig with?

Despite dipping into various makes and models my 30-year-old love affair with a Tokai Strat continues but is now augmented by a Fender Telecaster, Godin electric and Crafter acoustic guitars.

After recent abuse from the band for the insane volume produced by a Peavey Classic 30 I’ve changed to a Laney valve combo, colouring the sound though a TC Nova system and Mooer stomp boxes which I swear by.

  • When did you start to play?

First picked up a guitar at the age of 5 which was actually a 1958 salmon pink Fender Strat owned by my sister's boyfriend who was in a Shadows cover band - that's when my romance for the instrument began.

Proper guitar playing only really started after hearing Santanas Abraxas album in 1969. I'll listen to anything but, with background rooted in 70’s rock (King Crimson, Family, Rory Gallagher, Wishbone Ash) amongst many, when offered the spot with PFD (mainly due to A. being bald and B. providing bourbon biscuits and cakes at rehearsals) I jumped at the chance. I Invested in a new set of strings, discovered Nashville tuning plus the seventh augmented ninth chord and haven’t looked back since (other than to acknowledge the powerhouse of the rhythm section when the iron bell rings)

  • What was the first tune(s) you learned to play?

The first things I can recall learning and playing were And I Love Her by the Beatles, purely due to the part by George Harrison being the first solo I could play together with (embarrassingly) Bend It by Dave Dee ,Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Titch.

  • Favourite song to perform?

Hard pressed to choose a preferred Floyd song to perform but Comfortably Numb takes some beating.
